Military Source: Southern Road Will Remain Open, Charbel Optimistic
Local Editor

A Lebanese military security source didn't exclude Saturday the possibility of resorting to the security solution to remove Sidon sit-in.

In an interview with "as-Safir" Lebanese daily , the source emphasized that "this is the last medicine."
"The country is not likely to leave things as they are now, as the delay to act may lead to disastrous results," he cautioned and refused to set a deadline to open the road by force.

The source also highlighted that "the political attempts to resolve the crisis is still ongoing and may lead to the desired results."
"We aren't against the right of peaceful expression and protests, but at the same time no one is allowed to block people's lives," he said.

The military source stated that "things won't exceed their current borders as the city's leaderships will try to find a way out of the crisis."

In parallel, Interior Minister Charbel expressed his optimism that "the issue of Ahmad al-Asir's sit will be resolved soon."
"Al-Asir knows that the weapons issue is addressed on the dialogue table and that it can't be discussed anywhere else," Charbel told "an-Nahar" daily.

On the security plan his ministry is applying, Charbel clarified that "the most important achievement is that everyone, including those who burn tires and block roads, is convinced that they are wrong."
