Tens of professors at the Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts expressed their support to the "occupy" camp staged on the university's campus, demanding an end to restriction imposed on it.
According to Bostinnovation.com, twenty-nine professors at Harvard expressed their support for the campaign by writing a letter to the university's president.
"We consider the decision to lock the gates at Harvard Yard inconsistent with the University's commitments to open inquiry and inclusiveness", the letter read.
During the last two weeks, students have been occupying Harvard Yard, calling for a more "ethical and socially responsible institution", and voicing solidarity with the "Occupy" protesters sweeping across the country.
Despite this appeal, the university's gates are locked and are being monitored by security guards.
On their official website, the Occupy Harvard organizers stressed, "We would like to reiterate that Occupy Harvard is a peaceful movement and so poses no harm to the yard".
"We would like to note that Harvard has traditionally had an open campus policy. In previous occupations, such as the living wage campaign in 2001 and the Vietnam War protests in 1969, it did not respond by closing down the yard. This is unprecedented." the website statement further read.
Commenting on the decision to lock main gates to the campus, the Occupy Harvard members stated, "We very much hope that they will open the gates as soon as possible. If there are concerns about security, the Harvard administration might consider reposting the many police officers posted 24 hours a day at the gates to the yard".
