Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said that some of the most important issues of the country are discussed and settled in the State Expediency Council.
During a meeting on Sunday with the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the members of the Expediency Council, His Eminence stated that the Council should help the Islamic system continue making progress in various spheres.
The members of the Expediency Council who were appointed or reappointed for a new five-year term in a decree issued on March 14.
"Counseling the leader on the general policies of the Islamic System and regulating such policies are two important tasks undertaken by the State Expediency Council," Imam Khamenei said while further elaborating on the status of the State Expediency Council within the system and its duties as brought in the Constitution.
"Iran is on the path of progress and the Expediency Council should help the Islamic system maintain momentum through the adoption of a positive attitude toward issues," Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
He also noted that the council shoulders great responsibilities and thanked Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and the members who served during the previous term of the council for their efforts.
