US unemployment rates for the month of July shows an increase in 44 states, the most states to have a monthly rise in jobless rates in over three years.
According to the US Labor Department, only two states witnessed a drop in jobless rates, while the rates in four states remained unchanged.
With the new figures released on Friday, the country’s unemployment rate now stands at 8.3 percent, up from 8.2 percent in June.
The rate excludes those who have stopped looking for a job.
The United States has been experiencing sluggish economic growth since the global financial crisis affected the country about five years ago.
